Perspectives

After becoming frustrated with the biased nature of current news outlets, I came up with the idea to create an event-based news service that would curate articles to reflect a broader perspective. I worked with 3 other designers to bring Perspectives to life.

Current news apps are inherently biased. Because each news service reports events to reflect their values and agendas, apps that use a single source to report an event do not fully present a global perspective. If the user can’t observe news from multiple viewpoints, they inherit the biases imposed by a single source.

The goal of Perspectives is to provide a way for users to access various news sources from all over the world - giving insights to events that may otherwise go unnoticed or ignored. Helping users gain multiple views of the latest news stories, Perspectives truly puts the world in your hands.

The app organizes news by events instead of articles in order to avoid bias toward more popular news sources. In order to find an article, the user must select a particular event. Because Perspectives is organized by events, the user can browse articles from different countries and news sources associated with each event.  Both events and articles can be saved to the shortlist where updates will appear.

All articles in Perspectives can be viewed in their original language. Articles written in the user’s primary and secondary languages appear as-is, all other languages are automatically translated into the primary language using Google Translate API.
